Lecture: Jason Horley, Industrial Light and Magic
Who
Jason worked with the best movies from Star Wars, Jurrasic Park, Marvel, DC, to Mission impossible, and more. Presenting a fascinating insight into the creative worlds of Film and TV.
What did I learn
I learned about the creative industry and what it involves. A very positive lecture about the creative arts and what it entails. Having a basic understanding of the software programs, CAD, Blender, Zed brush photoshop, is all you need as long as you have a range of it.
Jason comes from a fine art background, understanding colour, light, space, movement, and composition with an eye for detail. It means he wants everyone to have the knowledge of fine art, and take it forward within the working world.
There is a lot of work to do within the field and you can not be attached to what you do, sadly anything you do within the studio space belongs to them.
He said that most of his work involves basic 3D Blender shapes then drawn over with photoshop.
There is a lot of creative freedom but with set briefs. His philosophy is to say yes to the work and looks up how to do it then collaborate with colleagues. The ability to be open and adapt. To get involved and have a feel for what you have to do.
How does it make me feel?
Very happy for the future as there is a job market for it and there is a lot of encouragement within the fields from his company. This is a very positive outcome it gives me a lot of hope within the creative field.
